Clinical Excellence: Coordinating Psychiatric Care with the VA Community Care Network

VA Community Care Psychiatric Services

Resilience Illinois provides authorized psychiatric evaluations and medication management for Veterans via the CCN.

What are VA Community Care Psychiatric Services?

VA community care psychiatric services provide Veterans with access to medical doctors (Psychiatrists) or Advanced Practice Nurses who specialize in mental health diagnosis and medication management. When the VA cannot meet your needs for psychiatric care internally, Resilience Illinois serves as an authorized partner to ensure you receive expert medical oversight in a community setting.

Accessing Community Psychiatry

1
Psychiatry Consult: Your VA provider must enter a consult specifically for "Psychiatry Community Care."
2
TPA Coordination: The VA works with Optum/TriWest to approve the Request for Service (RFS).
3
Clinical Transmission: Authorization details and medical records are sent to Resilience Illinois.
4
Intake Exam: You meet with our psychiatric team for an initial 60-90 minute evaluation.
5
Ongoing Support: Regular follow-ups are scheduled to monitor medication and progress.
PSYCHIATRY PRO-TIP: Ensure your VA referral includes "Medication Management." If you are also receiving therapy elsewhere, the VA must issue a separate authorization code for psychiatry to ensure both providers are reimbursed.
COMMON PITFALL: "Medication Lapses." The VA Pharmacy typically fills prescriptions written by community providers. Ensure your psychiatrist sends the prescription to the VA Pharmacy with enough lead time to avoid missing doses.

Specialized Medical Care for Veterans

Our psychiatric team understands the biological and psychological impacts of service. We are ready to provide the high-level medical care you deserve through the VA CCN.

Psychiatric Services FAQ

Does the VA pay for my medications?

Yes. When a Resilience Illinois psychiatrist writes a prescription, it is sent to the VA Pharmacy to be filled at no cost (or a standard VA copay) to the Veteran.

Can I receive psychiatry and therapy at the same time?

Absolutely. In fact, the VA often recommends a "dual-track" approach. We can provide both services or coordinate with your existing community or VA therapist.
