Force Health Protection: Comprehensive Outpatient Care for TRICARE Members in Illinois

TRICARE Outpatient Mental Health Services

Resilience Illinois provides specialized, community-based outpatient support for military members and their families.

What is TRICARE Outpatient Mental Health?

TRICARE outpatient mental health care refers to professional behavioral health services delivered in a clinic setting rather than a hospital. This includes therapy, counseling, and psychiatric medical management. At Resilience Illinois, we work as an authorized community partner to provide these services to military personnel and their dependents, allowing for high-quality care without the need for inpatient stays.

Outpatient Care Advantages

Maintain Duty Status

Our outpatient model allows active-duty members to receive treatment while remaining at their duty station or work site.

Continuity of Care

Establish a long-term relationship with a local clinical team that understands the unique rhythms of military life.

Military Family Focus

Outpatient services are specifically designed to support spouses and children through transitions, PCS, and deployment stress.

Path to Outpatient Authorization

1
Consult Request: Visit your MTF PCM or civilian doctor to request an "Outpatient Behavioral Health Consult."
2
Authorization: TRICARE reviews the medical necessity and issues a referral to Resilience Illinois.
3
Clinical Intake: You meet with an outpatient therapist or psychiatrist for a full diagnostic assessment.
4
Plan Development: Together, we create a goals-oriented plan (typically 1 session per week).
5
Seamless Reporting: We handle the clinical progress notes required by TRICARE for continued authorization.
OUTPATIENT PRO-TIP: If you are transitioning from "Partial Hospitalization (PHP)" or "Intensive Outpatient (IOP)" back to standard outpatient care, we can coordinate a "Step-Down" plan to ensure you don't lose progress during the transition.
COMMON PITFALL: "Referral Gaps." For Prime users, outpatient referrals typically cover a specific number of visits (e.g., 8 or 12). If you continue care past this number without a renewal, TRICARE will not cover the sessions.

Is there a limit to how many outpatient sessions I can have?

TRICARE authorizes sessions based on medical necessity. As long as clinical progress is being made, we can request renewals to ensure your care continues as long as needed.

Does outpatient care include family therapy?

Yes, outpatient authorizations can often include family sessions if they are part of the primary patient's clinical treatment plan.
